US Government and Universities are providing varied scholarships for International students in USA. For many across the world, USA has been considered as a major study destination in the world which is broadly known for its quality education. Below are the latest US scholarship updates for International students for the year 2014-15.

International Students Academic Merit Scholarship

East Tennessee State University is offering USA scholarship for International students seeking under graduation or a graduation. The scholarship covers 50 percent of the tuition and maintenance fees. The deadlines for applications are July 1, 2014 and October 1, 2014.

Study Abroad Excellence Award

University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is providing scholarships and grants for international students who are seeking graduation and under graduation. The award is given mainly on the basis of academic performance of the scholars. Qualified international students who are intending to begin between Semester 2, 2011 and Semester 2, 2015 (inclusive) will receive this financial aid. Last date to submit application is 30 June 2015.

International Academic Excellence Award

University of Technology Sydney (UTS) provides academic excellence grant for international students planning to pursue a postgraduate course program. This financial aid will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence of students. Global students commencing between Spring Semester 2011 and Spring Semester 2015 (inclusive) who meet the standard will be highly regarded for a scholarship. The program application deadline is 30 June 2015.

Haas MBA Scholarships for International Students

Haas International School is offering scholarships for international students who are pursuing Masters. Scholarships are available for both domestic and international students. These scholarships are awarded for the period of two years, of which one quarter is being paid out at the beginning of each semester. Online application deadlines are 25th March 2014, 10th April 2014, 23rd May 2014 and 12th June 2014.

Gallagher Student Health Careers Scholarship Program

Gallagher Student Health Careers Scholarship programs are opened up for International students who are entering their junior and senior year of undergraduate study. Each award is worth $5,000. The awards are distributed in two parts; the first half is awarded for the Fall Semester, the second half is awarded for the Spring Semester. Applicants should demonstrate their financial need. The application deadline is May 16, 2014.

Norman E. Borlaug Leadership Enhancement

United States Agency for International Development offers Norman E. Borlaug Leadership Enhancement in Agriculture Program Fellowships in USA. The award is a total of US$20,000 for a period of maximum one year. These scholarships are not allowed to pay salaries or tuition fees. Along with a GPA of 3.0 or higher applicants must have completed at least one year of course work in the graduate program he/she is enrolled in. The application deadline is May 1, 2014.

Knight-Bagehot Fellowship in USA

Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism is offering fellowships for proficient and qualified journalists who are studying one year full-time program in the USA in the diverse fields of study like finance, economics, and business. Each year ten journalism fellowships are awarded. Fellows get free tuition along with a stipend to set off living expenses in New York City. For the 2014 academic year, a remuneration of $55,000 will be offered to each fellow. Housing is also available in a Columbia-affiliated facility. Applicants should hold at least four years of experience in order to apply for this business journalism fellowship. Deadline for the submission of application form via post is March 1, 2014.

PhD Student Position in Bioinformatics

One position at University of South Dakota is open to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in USA. Candidate should have done a Bachelors or Masters or equivalent in Computer Science/ Bioinformatics/ Biology. One student position is available. Candidates must have outstanding communication skills. The position is available starting August 2014. The position will remain open until March 15, 2014. Applications should be submitted by February 15, 2014.

Provost’s Distinguished Graduate Fellowships and Scholarships

Candidates who did their doctoral and masters’ in creative/research degree programs are invited to apply for the fellowships and scholarships by the Graduate School at Oregon State University in USA. PhD Scholars do not exist here. Submit your applications for Early Selection on or before January 6, 2014. Nomination Deadline is February 3, 2014.

USA International Scholarships

Penn State University provides international scholarships for freshmen who are doing a full-time program at Penn State University’s Greater Allegheny campus. These scholarships are allowed on a competitive basis to international applicants. This award is not for the transfer students. The scholarship covers out-of-state tuition for international first-year applicants. Last date for submitting applications is January 30, 2014.

Sié Fellowship in USA

Each year, Sié Chéou-Kang Center for International Security and Diplomacy at the Korbel School, University of Denver is providing 10 free-tuition financial aids for International scholars who are pursuing Masters. The scholarship will be awarded for a period of two academic years. However, depends upon second year’s academic achievement, scholarship will be reallocated. The programme application deadline is January 15, 2014 through online mode.

Fordham Business Scholarship Challenge in USA

Fordham University Graduate School of Business Administration and Student Competitions AB are welcoming applications for a financial aid competition. Full-tuition scholarship will be awarded to first five winners of the competition. Aspirant candidates need to apply for admission to their selected master’s program by March 17, 2014 and must be admitted and enrolled at Fordham GBA, commencing fall semester 2014. Deadline for submitting the online application is January 20, 2014.

AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship

The AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship augment global diversity while supports academic opportunity and access. This scholarship is intended for International students who want to carry out a Bachelor’s Degree in the USA. The scholarship covers four years of study and is open for secondary school students. Applicants must submit their applications on or before January 15, 2014.

Fellowships in USA for Foreign Nationals

Hubert Humphrey Fellowships are awarded to experienced professionals who possess good leadership qualities and have the enthusiasm to serve the public in both public and private sectors. These scholarships are intended to widen the career paths for Profs and provide them the professional advancement in the United States by providing a ten month non-degree academic study and related work experiences.

Annually 200 fellowships are awarded in the areas of Urban and Regional Planning, Trafficking in Persons Policy and Prevention, Technology Policy and Management, Teaching of English as a Foreign Language, Substance Abuse Education, Treatment and Prevention, Public Policy Analysis and Public Administration, Public Health Policy and Management, Natural Resources, Environmental Policy, and Climate Change, Law and Human Rights, Human Resource Management, HIV/AIDS Policy Prevention, Higher Education Administration, Finance and Banking, Educational Administration, Planning, and Policy, Economic Development, Communications/Journalism, and Agricultural and Rural Development.

The scholarship covers Tuition, fees, sickness and accident coverage, book allowance, maintenance allowance including a one-time settling-in allowance. Also students will get other benefits like pre-academic English language training, if needed, Computer subsidy, travelling allowance to and from the United States, and a professional development allowance for professional activities such as meetings, conferences, presentations, and field trips.

To get eligibility for this:

The applicants should have done with an undergraduate (first university) degree with a minimum of five years solid professional experience. Students should have limited or no prior experience in the United States, a record of public service in the community, and fluent English skills.

Application Deadlines stretch from May to September every year depends upon the University. Hence it is better to contact the University and visit the website’s official address. However Commissions and Embassies must submit their nominations to the Institute of International Education office in Washington, DC by 1st October.

Wharton Business School Emerging Economy Scholarships

Wharton Business School and University of Pennsylvania are jointly offering Emerging Economy Scholarships to MBA students who are from emerging economies throughout the world.

The fellowship covers the two year study at Wharton.

Students who are studying first year of their MBA program at Wharton Business School are eligible for these scholarships. Other criteria include matchless personal qualities, indispensable personal development, effective leadership, and scholastic achievement.

East West Center Graduate Degree Scholarships for Asia and the Pacific

The East-West Center Graduate Degree Scholarships are awarded to the selected nationals who are pursuing post graduate study in educational and research programs and participating in the Center’s international and intercultural programs at the University of Hawai’i. The EWC affiliation helps successful awardees to become a part of growing network students and alumni of the world’s most vibrant region.

However, it is not officially stated in the website, scholarships will be given to any academic program offered at the University of Hawaii.

Graduate students can take part in the Center’s graduate certificate programs offered in natural resource management, population studies, international intercultural studies, and in leadership studies.

Also scholars are invited to participate in the Center’s research projects in several areas of international study including economics, education, population and health, politics, governance and security, pacific islands development, environmental change, and population and health.

The fellowships offer funding for Masters (24-month fellowship) and Doctoral degrees (up to 48-month fellowship) at the University of Hawaii as well as funding for graduate certificate programs and research projects at East-West Center. Last date to submit the applications is November 1st 2014.

Along with the general requirements like Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), aspirants should meet the English language requirements set by the University like Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) for applicants from non-English speaking countries.

International students should meet exchange visitor (J-1 visa) requirements.

Degree Fellowship Requirements

Apart from the general requirements, East West Center students are much needed to take part in the Center’s education programs such as Spring Core Issue Course, which comprises of a chain of group discussions and presentations and a Core program that will be conducted weekly during fall semester.

Graduates are expected to take an active role in EWC Research Project and devote 90 hours of community service during their award period. Those who are not able to participate in the project work must entail one of the several interdisciplinary certificates. Also College boys should submit a monthly report to the Associate Dean.

American University Emerging Global Leader Scholarship

The American University Emerging Global Leader Scholarships are intended for foreigners who are ambitious to pursue a Bachelors’ Degree in the US and can return home to demonstrate a stern social change to their society. Foreigners should prove that they will go back to their home nation to improve underserved and under-resourced communities in his/her home country. Every year only one scholarship will be awarded to a first-year (freshman) international student.

U.S. Citizens are not eligible to apply. Overseas students who represent underserved socio-economic backgrounds and those who had overcome several obstacles in order to achieve the milestones in their career paths will be preferred.

The scholarship covers all billable expenses from fees and tuition fees to food and accommodation). Students need to bear all the remaining non-billable expenses like books, health insurance, travelling allowances etc;

The scholarship will be renewed for a period of four years provided the students overall performance is satisfactory.

Eligibility

Eligible candidates must be applying at American University as a freshman for the August 2015 semester. Students who are enrolled in other Universities are not eligible. U.S. Citizens are again not eligible to apply.

Also students must meet the admission requirements set by the University like having a minimum of 3.8 Grade Point Average (GPA) from 9-12 grades, a minimum of 95 in TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language that is measured by International Business and Technology) or 600 paper based TOEFL, 7.0 in IELTS (International English Language Testing System) and Impeccable communication skills (both oral and written).

Application deadline is 15th December 2014.

APLP Fellowships for International Students

The Asia Pacific Leadership Program (APLP) is a nine month innovative graduate level certificate program that helps to develop regional expertise and it also enhances individual leadership skills. The program is intended for international students who are recent university graduates, currently enrolled graduate students, and early to mid-level professionals. The program takes place from mid-August to mid-May and assures a minimum five-month residency requirement. All APLP participants receive an Entry Fellowship upon acceptance into the program.

The program deals with Interdisciplinary analysis of emergent regional issues with experiential leadership learning.

The scholarship is a monetary grant of approximately $15,000. Along with this, awardees will get numerous East-West Center funding opportunities.

Bachelors’ Degree: Awardees should hold a four-year under graduation or its equivalent (this should be determined by University of Hawaii. This generally could be a three year bachelors degree plus a one year masters’ degree or a 2 year bachelors degree and a two year masters degree) from an accredited U.S. College or University or from a recognized institution of higher learning abroad.

Along with these, students should be able to meet the remaining criteria including English language skills like TOEFL and IELTS. Students should appear for any of the above. In case of TOEFL, the scores that the students are going to submit should not be older than two years.  Hence it is highly advisable to take the TOEFL as early as possible.

Students should possess professional work experience and have a decent track record in the areas of leadership. Candidates should be familiar with overseas climate and environment and also had exposure to the foreign languages. Awareness on intercultural and diversity is an added advantage. Lastly, students should be able to work in teams as well as individuals.
